You can set up SurveyMonkey surveys, Qualtrics surveys, Typeform surveys, and/or Google Forms to capture student information automatically via custom variables from Skilljar when they are embedded in a lesson.

Pass Skilljar student information to a SurveyMonkey survey
You can pass Skilljar student information to SurveyMonkey via a SurveyMonkey survey embedded into a lesson in Skilljar. The student information you can pass to SurveyMonkey includes:
- Student full name
- Student first name
- Student last name
- Student email
- Student ID
- Course title
- Lesson title
- Published Course ID
Note: You must have an Advantage or Premier SurveyMonkey account to pass Skilljar student information to SurveyMonkey.
The custom variables that you can set up in SurveyMonkey include:

Add Skilljar custom variables to a SurveyMonkey survey
- In SurveyMonkey, click “My Surveys” in the top navigation bar or hamburger icon.
- Click the “Design Survey” icon in the “Design” column for the survey you want to embed in Skilljar.
- In the left navigation bar, click the “Logic” icon.
- Click “Custom Variables.”
- Add the custom variables you want to pass from Skilljar to SurveyMonkey in the “Variable Name” field:
- studentFullName
- studentFirstName
- studentLastName
- studentEmail
- studentId
- courseTitle
- lessonTitle
- publishedCourseId

You can pass Skilljar student information to Qualtrics via a Qualtrics survey embedded into a lesson in Skilljar. The student information you can pass to Qualtrics includes:

Add Skilljar custom variables to a Qualtrics survey
- In Qualtrics, edit a Project.
- From the "Survey" tab, click “Survey Flow”:
- From the Survey Flow window, click “Add a New Element Here.”
- Select the Embedded Data option:
- Under the "Set Embedded Data" block, click “Add a New Field” and change the text to "studentEmail."
- Click “Add a New Field" and add the "studentFullName" custom variable.
- Click “Add a New Field" and add the "studentFirstName" custom variable.
- Click “Add a New Field" and add the "studentLastName" custom variable.
- Click "Add a New Field" and add the "studentId" custom variable.
- Click “Add a New Field" and add the "lessonTitle" custom variable.
- Click “Add a New Field" and add the "courseTitle" custom variable.
- Click "Add a New Field" and add the "publishedCourseId" custom variable.
- Click Save Flow. The “Survey Flow” page will close.
- Click Publish.
Pass Skilljar student information to a Typeform survey
You can pass Skilljar student information to Typeform via a Typeform survey embedded into a lesson in Skilljar. The student information you can pass to Typeform includes:
- Student full name
- Student first name
- Student last name
- Student email
- StudentId
- Course title
- Lesson title
- Course ID
- PublishedCourseId
The custom variables that you can set up in Typeform include:
- studentFullName

View Hidden Fields in your Typeform results
Hidden Fields, similar to Custom Variables, allow you to use data that you already have, to make your Typeforms more personal, or simply to give you better data in your results.

Add Skilljar custom variables to a Typeform survey
- In Typeform, go to “My Workspace” section and create a new Typeform survey.
- Open your Typeform, and select Add new question. This opens the Questions menu, and at the bottom, you will see Hidden Fields.
- A new field will appear at the top of your Typeform editor.
- Add the custom variables you want to pass from Skilljar to Typeform in the “Hidden Fields” editor. Hit space to add another variable.

- studentlastname
- studentemail
- studentid
- coursetitle
- lessontitle
- courseid
- publishedcourseid
- Whatever you write for your custom variables will be converted to lowercase letters automatically. If they are not, please make sure you only use lowercase letters.
- You can now test them by using the tool, and see what it will look like in your typeform’s URL:
Pass Skilljar student information to a Google Form
You can pass Skilljar student information to Google Forms via a pre-filled Google Form embedded into a lesson in Skilljar. The student information you can pass to Google Forms includes:
- Student full name
- Student first name
- Student last name
- Student email
- Student ID
- Course title
- Lesson title
- Published Course ID
The custom variables that you can set up in a pre-filled Google Form include:
- STUDENT_FULL_NAME
- STUDENT_FIRST_NAME
- STUDENT_LAST_NAME
- STUDENT_EMAIL
- STUDENT_ID
- COURSE_TITLE
- LESSON_TITLE
- PUBLISHED_COURSE_ID

Add Skilljar custom variables to a Google Form
- On the Google Form in your Google Drive, add short answer questions for each custom variable you want to include:
- Student full name
- Student first name
- Student last name
- Student email
- Student ID
- Course title
- Lesson title
- Published Course ID
- On the top right of the Google Form, click the three-dot menu.
- Click “Get pre-filled link.” A new browser with the live Google Form will open.
- Pre-fill the customer variable fields:
- In the “Student Full Name” short answer field, type STUDENT_FULL_NAME.
- In the “Student First Name” short answer field, type STUDENT_FIRST_NAME.
- In the “Student Last Name” short answer field, type STUDENT_LAST_NAME.
- In the “Student Email” short answer field, type STUDENT_EMAIL.
- In the "Student ID" short answer field, type STUDENT_ID.
- In the “Course Title” short answer field, type COURSE_TITLE.
- In the “Lesson Title” short answer field, type LESSON_TITLE.
- In the "Published Course ID" short answer field, type PUBLISHED_COURSE_ID.
- Scroll to the bottom of the survey and click GET LINK. The URL is copied to your clipboard.
- Use this URL to embed the pre-filled Google Form into your lesson in Skilljar.
When students view the embedded Google Form lesson, their name, their email, the course title, and the course lesson will populate automatically in the Google Form where you placed the custom variables in the pre-filled Google Form.
