  • Updated

Skilljar’s generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools allow dashboard admins to streamline tasks and save time by creating some initial content throughout the Skilljar dashboard. Our AI Features can help you generate:

  • Course Learning Objectives Generator: Generate quick and accurate learning objectives in your long description field for a course based on course and lesson content.
  • Course Short Descriptions: Generate accurate and compelling short descriptions of a course based on the course’s Long Description.
  • Course Quizzes: Generate quiz questions and answers from existing course content when creating a lesson to make knowledge checks easy.
    • Lesson Selection: Select which lessons you want to use to generate a quiz when using the Quiz Generation AI feature.

With these features, you can also easily review and edit the AI-generated content to keep what you like and edit as needed.

Tell us how else you’d like to use AI in Skilljar.

Note: When you first use our AI functionality on the Skilljar dashboard, you’ll receive a popup Terms and Conditions notification. To use our AI functionality, you must select I accept these terms and conditions to agree with our Supplemental Terms.

How does it work?

As you move through your Skilljar dashboard and create or edit a course, you’ll see a new AI icon appear next to a specific task, giving you the option to “generate” content for this field using our AI tools.

Selecting the icon will open the AI workflow for the task and generate the content for the task. Once the AI process is completed you can approve or edit the text as you see fit (see each section below for more details).

Notes

  • If you save an AI-generated description, it will overwrite the existing description.
  • Our AI functionality pulls data from your course description, lesson titles, lesson descriptions, lesson keywords, and lesson content/content items. If there isn’t enough data to pull from, you’ll receive a popup notification. If you receive this popup, please first create more lessons, add descriptions, and then try generating the AI text again.

Currently, our AI tasks include:

Course Short Description

The Short Description is the brief description of your course. The AI feature will generate the content of the Short Description using the information you’ve provided in your course’s long description.

Select Generate Text. A popup window will appear with a preview of the AI-generated text. To apply it, select Submit

Note: This will replace any existing Short Description.

To edit the description, simply make the changes within the Short Description box.

When you’ve finished, select Save to apply the new AI-generated text.

Course Learning Objectives (for the Long Description)

The course Learning Objectives are the goals learners will aim to achieve after taking the course. The AI feature generates the content using the course description, lesson titles, lesson descriptions, lesson keywords, and the lesson content/content items. The content will appear within the Long Description html box within the course’s management page.

Select Generate Learning Objective. A popup screen will appear with a preview of the AI-generated text. To apply it, select Submit. The AI-generated content will appear within the Long Description html box.

Note: If you are replacing a current Long Description, the new AI-generated content will appear at the top of the text box and your previous content will remain, allowing you to compare and edit them as you see fit.

When you’ve finished, select Save to apply the new AI-generated text.

Quiz question generation

When creating and adding a quiz to a lesson, you can use the AI feature to generate multiple-choice quiz questions from existing courses or specific existing lessons. Five questions will be generated by default and the quiz will be applied to the lesson upon creation.

On the Quiz creation screen, select Generate Questions

A popup screen will appear and give the option of selecting questions from an entire course or generating questions via select courses.

Generate Questions from the Entire Course

Selecting Generate Questions from the Entire Course will use Uses Course Description, Lesson Titles, Lesson Keywords, Lesson Descriptions, and Lesson Content/Content Items from the course to generate multiple-choice questions and applies them to the lesson.

Select Lessons from Which to Generate Questions

Selecting Select Lessons from Which to Generate Questions will produce a list of course sections and lessons. Select the section to select all of the lessons within it, or select each lesson individually. Select Generate Questions to create the multiple-choice quiz and apply it to the lesson.

Five questions will be generated by default. You’ll receive a preview of the questions and answers, and have the option of editing them, changing the number of questions (up to ten), removing questions, and regenerating them completely by selecting the regenerate button.

When you’re finished, select Save as Quiz to apply to add the quiz to the lesson.
