Intercom: Adding an Intercom Chat Widget

  • Updated

Using Intercom's chat feature, students can contact your support team directly in Skilljar.

You'll need an Intercom account to get started.

1. Find your Intercom APP_ID. This can most easily be found in any Intercom URL after "apps/"

2. Paste the following code into your Global Code Snippet in Theming. Be sure to replace the APP_ID text occurrences with the actual ID.

<script>
  window.intercomSettings = {
    app_id: 'APP_ID',
    name: window.skilljarUser.name, // Full name
    email: window.skilljarUser.email // Email address
  };
</script>
<script>(function(){var w=window;var ic=w.Intercom;if(typeof ic==="function"){ic('reattach_activator');ic('update',intercomSettings);}else{var d=document;var i=function(){i.c(arguments)};i.q=[];i.c=function(args){i.q.push(args)};w.Intercom=i;function l(){var s=d.createElement('script');s.type='text/javascript';s.async=true;s.src='https://widget.intercom.io/widget/APP_ID';var x=d.getElementsByTagName('script')[0];x.parentNode.insertBefore(s,x);}if(w.attachEvent){w.attachEvent('onload',l);}else{w.addEventListener('load',l,false);}}})()</script>

Customers who are using Intercom's identity verification functionality will need to contact our Customer Success team or Skilljar Support to enable this on your training domain. Your Intercom workplace secret key will be required for Skilljar to use to secure your widget.
