What happens when I edit a question bank that is being used in multiple quizzes?

Effects on Quizzes: The change will affect all quizzes the question bank is used in. For example, if the question bank name was changed, then the updated name will be reflected when viewing the associated quizzes. When new questions are added or questions are removed, then the available question count on each associated quiz will be updated. When questions are reordered, then any new student taking the associated quiz will get the questions presented in the new order.

Effects on Students:

Some changes to a question bank can invalidate in-progress quizzes. When a student is in the process of taking a quiz when a change is made, some changes will invalidate the student’s quiz. In this case, the student sees an error message and needs to retake the quiz. No answers from the previous quiz are retained:

These changes result in the invalidation of in-progress quizzes:

  • Reordering questions in a question bank (even when the questions are used randomly)
  • Modifying the number of questions in a question bank, when the Use all questions in this question bank in order setting is used
  • Changing how a question bank is used in a quiz - this includes changing random question selection vs. using questions in the order of the question bank and modifying the number of questions your quiz should pull from the question bank
  • When changing a question within a question bank, the student’s quiz will only be invalidated if this particular question was selected to be presented to the student when they started the quiz.

Are questions in a question bank included in quiz analytics?

Question bank questions with responses will appear in the quiz analytics (Question tab). Quiz questions (non-question bank questions) will appear first in the list, and then question bank questions in the question bank order and question order. Unanswered questions will appear at the end and be presented in the same sort order where non-question bank questions will be first, and then followed by question bank questions in question bank order and question order.

When questions are deleted, the analytics data will also be removed.

The downloadable CSV file of the quiz results on the Students tab will include all questions in the quiz question pool, non-question bank questions and question bank questions. Even non-answered questions will be included.
